FREE HOMEMADE ELECTROLYTE DRINK FOR DOGS

If your dog has had a bout of diarrhoea, or is currently experiencing a sudden loss of

When it comes to rehydration, water and salt (sodium) are lost. In order for the body to rehydrate with key electrolytes. What many people fail to understand is that for the body to be able to absorb sodium efficiently you need glucose to go with it.

For example, hospital IVs will contain glucose and salt in them, along with other nutrients, such as potassium, which is a lot less important when it comes to short term rehydration.

So what we are going to do is pair sodium (salt) with glucose (sugar).

How do we do this? On a 1:1 molecular weight basis. This would for example be 1/4 teaspoon of salt and 3 teaspoons of honey and dissolve with water. We are then going to offer as much water as our dog will want.

It's important you obviously check your dog's weight, overall diet and your own competency and knowledge before you get into your dog's rehydration. Make sure you're not taking this advice lightly.

Shortly after that, we could mash a quarter banana and offer it to our dog. Bananas contain really important nutrients that are good for rehydration.
