Dog Allergies In 5 Minutes.

Dog Allergies In 5 Minutes.

Dog Allergies in 5 minutes.

Allergies in dogs, like in people, are a relatively novel concept. There enough allergy symptoms to make you very confused. However, you should take the time to understand allergies.

To be honest, allergies are very rare. Most ‘’allergies’’ are just intolerances. When one is allergic to nuts, the consumption of nuts can be fatal. This is (thankfully) very rare, also with pets.

Most ‘’allergies’’ are just food intolerances.

Common Symptoms:

  • Itchy, flakey skin. Recurring sore spots.
  • Obsessive paw biting and licking.
  • Very soft, smelly poos.
  • Anal gland issues.
  • Ear and eye conditions.
  • Poor flakey coat, loss of hair.

You have probably tried a range of things, maybe after a few vet visits where the diagnosis has been varied. Pollen, sand, grass, colitis…

You’re probably tired of spending time and money on it. Even ‘’hypoallergenic’’ foods do not work.

Any condition ending with ‘’itis’’ is mainly an irritation.

Guess what commonly causes irritation? Sugar.

A high amount of carbohydrates in your dog’s food converts into sugar, causing inflammation and fuelling all these conditions.

Commercial foods typically cook meat at high temperatures, diminishing its nutritional value and killing any Omega-3 fatty acids (anti-inflammatory).

The solution to these problems isn’t to endlessly prescribe the dog treatments. Is to solve the problem with food first.

There are 3 main types of dog allergies:

1. Food intolerances

2. Environmental

3. Breed Specific.

1. Food intolerances. This is when your dog is having a protein or food that causes inflammation/reaction.

What to do. Read our article: The Elimination Diet.

What else to do if you go to the vet: Ask them for an allergy test and get it done if you can afford it. Them giving you an injection and suggesting a ''Hypoallergenic'' food won't help.

Remember that the ingredients in hypoallergenic foods have never been defined, so vet diets will include ingredients like ''animal fats, maize, gluten meal, poultry fat...''.

Remember this, if you are trying to narrow down what your dog eats and the vet suggests a bag of food with ''animal fat'' in it, will you know what animal fat is going into the food?

Vets suggest foods they partner with. We could sell these foods to, we choose not to out of principle because they are appallingly bad.

2. Environmental: Dust, sand, grass... The dog could be allergic to something environmental. The problem is that without an allergy test, we will not know what's causing the allergy.

3. Breed specific: If you happen to fall for a specific designer dog where the breeders have mixed several dogs and colours in order to give you something very specific, this can trigger all sorts of problems. These problems cannot be solved, only mitigated by good food.

In any case, allergies can only be solved if they are nutrition based. If the allergy is environmental or seasonal, you will only be able to mitigate it.
